Dress: Diane von Furstenberg via Goodwill; Clutch: Gigi New York; Shoes: Sam Edelman via Goodwill (Similar Splurge // Save); Earrings: Kendra Scott
Contrary to what you have seen lately on Goldwill Digger, I’ve been in a style rut. When not shooting or at my desk, I’m wearing the same unifrom of leggings/white jeans with a black/gray tank and sneakers. Blah. This happens to me every couple of months. Unfortunately, when I feel this way, the last thing I want to do is go shopping! *GASP* It’s usually around the time between seasons when I’ve exhausted my summer or fall wardrobe but the temps prevent me from embracing the fun trends for the next season. Luckily, the colors and print of this Diane von Furstenberg Goodwill find are helping me break out of the black shell.
If you find yourself in a rut like me, try these 3 tricks to break out of your style rut without spending a dime!
1. Color
When I’m feeling uninspired, I turn to black. Black never fails me. If this is your current rut, add a pop of color in your accessories with a jewel tone statement heel or a bold saddle bag or experiment with textures like a black lace off shoulder top. If you are feeling really adventurous, challenge yourself not to wear black for a few days, or even a week! This will force you to experiment with the colors and patterns hanging in your closet.
2. Ask for help.
Every woman on the planet has faced the “I have nothing to wear” dilemma, except maybe Cher Horowitz. The daunting cloud hangs over your closet taunting you like a pesky little brother. If you have a TRUSTED friend of loved one that gives you style inspo, ask them to come over and pick out an outfit or two for you. Most of my friends don’t see my closet on a regular basis so their outside perspective can transform my wardrobe. If you’re feeling really adventurous/trusting, ask your SO or child to pick out your outfit! It’s eye-opening to see how others can find in your closet!
3. Pinspo!
When all else fails, turn to your trusty friend, Pinterest. Though sometimes a little overwhelming, search for specific pieces in your closet. For instance, I have an untouched 6 month old long navy vest. I have been scouring Pinterest for the last few weeks for ideas on how to incorporate this piece into my work wardrobe. Look back on your “style” boards to see if there is anything that spikes your interest or could easily be recreated with items in your closet. I am guilty of excessive pinning but never returning to my boards for inspiration when I need it the most. Utilize those hours of procrastination to revive your wardrobe!
