I often encourage newbie Goodwill shoppers to start a Goodwill shopping trip in the accessories section because one size fits all, and accessories are way less overwhelming than the racks and racks of clothes. Evening bags are my number one go-to accessory find at Goodwill! It is easy to find brand new or like new evening bags because we often neglect these items in our closets or only purchase for a special event and never use again. I love finding vintage evening bags at Goodwill! The beautiful beaded wicker bag I’m wearing here is my favorite vintage bag I’ve found at Goodwill (Outlet, no less). (See the rest of my Goodwill outlet haul here.) I love the intricacy and detailing on vintage evening bags which is hard to find at a reasonable price in traditional retail stores.
Since I have accumulated quite the collection of vintage evening bags without, I love finding different ways to incorporate them into my daily wardrobe. Wearing an evening bag does not have to be limited to a special occasion or evening wear. I love to pair an unexpected evening bag into my #ootd! Though it may seem impractical due to its small size and perceived lack of functionality, the evening bag should drop its formal moniker for something more fitting like all day/errrrday bag.
If you’re still unconvinced on making the transition from night to day, here are four reasons why you should carry an evening bag during the daytime.
It’s minimalistic.
I’m not sure how or why but I can fill up any size handbag with the simple “necessities.” Carrying a small evening bag during the day really forces me to pare down to only the bare necessities. Not only does it force you to carry less, a small bag gives off a carefree persona that you don’t carry baggage. (Emotional baggage is another post for another day and can’t be cured by the size of your handbag!)
It’s unexpected.
Making an unexpected fashion choice shows others that you care about fashion but not THAT much. Like, “This old thing? I just found it in my grandmother’s closet.” Everyone’s carrying around a big honkin’ (is that even a word?) tote these days, and a delicate bag is an unexpected change.
It’s easy.
Need an easy way to spruce up your daytime wardrobe? Mix in an evening bag, and instantly, you have an elevated look. People always tell me, “I could never pull that off.” but this is a trend that is super easy and versatile.
It’s chic.
How many street style influencers do you see on Instagram lugging around huge totes? Not many. (They probably have assistants to do that!) Evening bags are chic and modern without being pretentious.

great idea! I have this amazing white and gold zebra print clutch that I’ve never thought about just wearing casually. It’s usually my go to wedding purse.
