I have Schoolhouse Rock to thank for mastering how a bill journeys from the steps of Capital Hill to becoming a law, but who knew all those years Schoolhouse Rock also slid fashion advice in with catchy sing-a-longs? Three…it’s a magic number. I have a little rule of three when shopping at Goodwill or elsewhere. If I am debating on a purchase, I make myself think of 3 ways I can wear it. If I can think of 3, it’s sold. If not, back on the rack it goes for the next willing buyer. This rule has kept me from many impulse purchases. I’ve even resorted to pulling up my Pinterest app in the middle of the store to look for outfit ideas. With a classic piece like the tuxedo blazer, 3 ways to style it came to mind immediately.
The tuxedo blazer is an essential in any closet and can be styled more than 3 ways any day or season of the year. Casually worn with a tee and jeans during the day, over a formal gown at a black-tie event, and maybe as a dress a la Rihanna. (If I had her body, I’d do it too.) The masculinity of a tuxedo jacket exudes an air of confidence and sophistication like walking through the lobby of the Beverly Wilshire in a pair of thigh-high boots. All women could benefit from having a tuxedo jacket in their arsenal, even a hooker named Vivian. You can play with color, shape, cut…why have just one? I have linked some of my favorite tuxedo jackets below.
Let me know how you style your tuxedo jacket or if you have any shopping rules in the comments below!

I want to know which Goodwill stores you have been to seem to be the best store to find all your goodies?

I have been to several in the Nashville area. I have found some great stuff at the location in Franklin on Highway 96 and in Berry Hill.
Love the ways that you styled this jacket and of course I love how thrifty you are!

OOH! Yes, I’ve been looking for a good tuxedo jacket. I saw one last year at Goodwill but didn’t pick it up. I should have. Gonna have to go on the hunt again.

I always pick up blazers/jackets whenever I see them because they will never go out of style!
Love all these looks on you, but I think I can most see myself wearing the second one, the nude sequin top… so pretty! I like your rule of three, I’ll have to remember that. 🙂
Love this post and that jacket! I do love how a suit jacket can be paired with so many different types of outfits! Great find!
I think that a tuxedo jacket adds a variety to a woman’s wardrobe. There are so many ways to alter and change looks just by adding or taking away a single element. For example, the article mentions being able to wear the jacket with a t shirt during the day or over a formal gown. I like the advice to think of three ways you can wear it before you buy it.
