Summer vacation is right around the corner which means pool days, beach trips, and long days! I’ve been looking for a clutch that I could throw into my beach bag but also carry at night. I’ve lusted over Stoney Clover Lane clutches for a few months now but finally decided to make one of my own! This tassel beach clutch is a super easy DIY and would be fun for a group of girlfriends or even as a personalized gift full of beach essentials.

Supplies

  • Cosmetic Pouch/Clutch
  • Tassels (I bought these premade from Michael’s)
  • Patches
  • Transfer Letters
  • Yarn
  • Iron (if using transfer letters)
  • Ruler

  1. I started with a $2.99 cotton clutch from Michael’s. You could use a pouch you already have (hello 500 ipsy pouches) or purchase a clutch from Goodwill. I suggest using cotton if you are using iron on adhesives For the sake of time, I purchased premade ombre tassels, but you can make your own like I did here. I prefer the look of layered tassels because it gives the tassel charm more thickness.

2. Double up a string of yarn and thread it through the zipper pull. Use the zipper pull hole closer to the zipper so your tassel falls just to the right of clutch.

3. Thread first tassel through the yarn as close to the zipper pull as possible and tie a double knot. (The premade tassels make this very easy because each has a loop at the top of the tassel.)

4. Thread the next tassel through and double knot. Repeat until you have reached your desired length.

5. Now, the most important part! What catching summer/beach/vacation phrase to include? Have fun and use your imagination. RBF = Resting Beach Face is the perfect description for my vacation persona!

6. Next, use a ruler to line up your letters.  Use tweezers to move or adjust your letters. Follow the directions on the packaging for adhesive or iron-on letters. (If you are using iron-on, make sure all lines of text line up before you begin ironing, or you might get a little crooked “T” like me.)

7. Finally, attach any other patches or embellishments. I found the CUTEST cat/mermaid  sticker patch at Michaels for $1.50.

Even for those non-crafters like me out there, making this tassel beach clutch shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes! Let your creativity (and wittiness) run wild on this DIY!  What phrase would you put on your beach clutch? Leave me a comment below and tag me in your DIYs on Instagram or #goldwilldiggerDIY!
