Back in October, I took a road trip to Jackson, MS (check out my travel guide here) and stopped at a Goodwill in Corinth, Mississippi on my way back to Nashville. One of my favorite parts about traveling is shopping at local Goodwills. In Corinth, I found a gorgeous Amanda Uprichard maxi dress that is perfect for summer but not so perfect for the middle of October.

Shopping offseason is less fulfilling for those shoppers out there that must satisfy their appetite for instant gratification, but I have learned a great deal can’t be passed up! One of my valuable Goodwill shopping tips (read more here ) is shopping offseason. Go home weather, you’re drunk! The winter/spring mix of weather we’ve had in Nashville is KRAZY, and an absolute pain in the (  |  ) to dress for! Instead of waiting for the temps to rise, I decided to outsmart Mother Nature (ha! Who do I think I am?), and show two ways to transition a maxi dress.

Sweater: J. Crew via Goodwill (Similar Splurge//Save), Maxi Dress: Amanda Uprichard via Goodwill (Similar Splurge//Save); Belt Bag: Fossil via Goodwill – gifted from The Blonde Mule! (Similar Splurge//Save); Shoes: Steve Madden; Earrings: H&M

For the first look, I played up the bright colors in the skirt by layering a  J.Crew lilac wool sweater over the maxi dress. If you’re less comfortable with bright colors, try layering a gray sweater  instead. You could also layer a sweater over a maxi skirt! Unless you could be a body double for Gigi Hadid, I recommend defining the waist line with this style with a belt, tying your top layer, or finding a sweater with a banded bottom like the one I’m wearing here.

Leather Jacket: Joie (MAJOR SALE at Nordstrom Rack/Similar Here); Clutch: Gigi New York; Boots: Marc Fischer via TJ Maxx; Earrings: H&M

For a less intimidating way to transition a maxi dress, I layered my navy leather jacket over the maxi and paired it with a bold earring and clutch and white booties. This look is great for those days when the weather fluctuates significantly or early Spring nights.

I cannot wait to show off my offseason finds this spring and summer! Did you find anything this winter that you can’t wait to wear? Leave me a comment below or tag me in your finds on Instagram with #goldwilldigger!
